Fast, secure, contactless payments
VISA® Debit cards from BankNewport are accepted wherever the contactless symbol is displayed.

What to Know About Contactless Cards
Contactless payments use short-range wireless technology to make secure payments between a contactless card or payment-enabled device and a contactless-enabled checkout terminal. Customers can tap their card near the Contactless Symbol and their payment is sent for authorization.
Simply look for the Contactless Indicator on the front of your card.
You can use your Contactless card anywhere you see the contactless payment symbols. This includes:
- Fast food restaurants
- Gas Stations
- Convenience stores
- Pharmacies
- Stadiums
- And more!
When you are ready to check out, you can simply tap your card at the enabled terminal. The card should be within 1-2 inches of the terminal; however some terminals function best if you tap the Contactless enabled card to the terminal itself.
You only need to hold your card to the terminal for 1 or 2 seconds.
Contactless payments offer the same security as EMV Chip transactions.
Yes, if you add your Contactless card to your digital wallet, you can tap to pay anywhere you see the Contactless Symbol displayed.
Contactless payments are fast, simple and secure! A Contactless card offers:
- Convenience: Merchants across the U.S. are increasingly able to accept Contactless cards for payment.
- Protection: When you tap to pay, your card has the same advanced encryption and safeguards as the chip on your card.
You can still transact by swiping or inserting your card at check out. We've simply added Contactless payments as a new, easier way to pay.
New consumer debit card customers and current customers who are reissued a card will receive a card with the Contactless feature.
We no longer offer cards without the Contactless feature. Please note that you can continue to insert or swipe your card in chip-enabled terminals.
No, the Contactless feature is included at no additional cost.
Using your Contactless card to make a purchase over the phone or online is the same process you would use for a chip card. Simply provide your card information to authorize the purchase.
If you have more than one Contactless card in your wallet, you should remove the specific card you would like to use rather than tapping your wallet against the reader.
No. Contactless technology requires the merchant to first initiate the payment, and the contactless card must be held in close proximity (1 -2 inches) to the terminal for a transaction to take place.
