07.16.24

NEWPORT, RI – July 16, 2024BankNewport CEO Jack Murphy recently joined representatives from the Jamestown Philomenian Library to celebrate the completion of the Library’s renovation and expansion project, a significant community investment to modernize the Library and enhance its capacity to serve all residents. The Bank provided a $50,000 grant in support of the project, with a special focus on the new addition to the children’s room of the Library.

“BankNewport is deeply committed to supporting initiatives that enrich our community,” said Jack Murphy, President and CEO of BankNewport.  “The Jamestown Philomenian Library is a tremendous resource for the community, providing a space for learning, exploration, and vital services for residents of all ages. BankNewport is extremely proud that our funding helped positively impact this important project.”

The Jamestown Philomenian Library has long been a cornerstone of the community, providing vital services and programs for residents and visitors alike. From its origins in 1828 as the Philomenian Debating Society to its current role as a vibrant community hub, the library has continually evolved to meet the needs of Jamestown’s diverse population. Key features of the renovation include:

  • Increased Capacity and Improved Facilities: The renovation includes a complete redesign of the interior, installation of an elevator to the basement, new paint, upgraded plumbing, enhanced lighting, bathroom upgrades, and new carpeting. The redesigned space provides more room for the Adult’s Room, Children’s Room, and staff areas, ensuring a more comfortable and efficient environment for all visitors.
  • Dedicated Zones for Different Demographics: The library’s new layout features designated areas for various age groups, including a Kids and Teens section separated from the main library through structural additions, a Family Restroom, and a quiet reading area for adults. This zoning ensures that each demographic can make the most out of their library experience.
