Before summer vacation came to a close, BankNewport President & CEO, Thomas W. Kelly (seated center) joined Boys & Girls Clubs of Newport County Executive Director, Joanne M. Hoops (seated right) and youth enjoying themselves at Camp Grosvenor, a summer day camp operated by the Boys & Girls Clubs located in Saunderstown, Rhode Island. BankNewport extended a $15,000 grant to fund various camp-wide improvements.

SAUNDERSTOWN, R.I. (September 6, 2007) – BankNewport President and CEO, Thomas W. Kelly recently joined Boys and Girls Clubs of Newport County (B&GC) Executive Director, Joanne M. Hoops and children participating in summer day camp at the organization’s Camp Grosvenor, located on 99-acres in Saunderstown, Rhode Island. BankNewport extended a grant in the amount of $15,000 to B&GC for various camp-wide improvements, including water and septic system upgrades.

An average of 140 youth from the B&GC attend Camp Grosvenor each week. Camp activities include swimming lessons, arts & crafts, summer reading, hiking, outdoor cooking, and sports. All children are served breakfast and lunch at the camp. In addition, B&GC have incorporated a summer Leaders-in-Training program for teens, 14-15 years old, focusing on career and leadership development. The teens not only assist with camp activities, but also have opportunities to participate in job shadowing, create career portfolios, and visits to area colleges and universities.

The mission of the B&GC is to inspire and enable all young people to realize their full potential as productive, responsible, and caring citizens. Over 1,400 members, ages 5-18, receive services from the club on an annual basis. A Boys & Girls Club provides: a safe place to learn and grow; ongoing relationships with caring, adult professionals; life-enhancing programs and character development experiences; hope and opportunity.
